National WWII Memorial

The American Battle Monuments Commission wanted to create the National World War II Memorial to honor Americans' sacrifices during the war. Congress mandated this project, on the National Mall's Rainbow Pool site.

Through General Services Administration (GSA), which provided project management and contracting, we were hired as prime architect and coordinated our professionals and consultants.

The bronze and granite memorial features two arches that symbolize the Atlantic and Pacific theaters. North and south plaza entries have seals of the military services at the time of the war. Fifty-six granite pillars connected by bronze ropes celebrate the nation's unity during WWII. Four-thousand gold stars on the Freedom Wall commemorate more than 400,000 Americans who gave their lives.

From project conception to completion, we coordinated multiple consultants and answered to various stakeholders and numerous review boards. We successfully delivered this monument to GSA, American Battle Monuments Commission and WWII veterans and their families.
