Denver International Airport Canopy
Denver, Colorado
Owner:
Denver International Airport
We designed two 800-foot-long, steel-framed canopies that provide covered waiting areas for passenger pick-up/drop-off adjacent to the front of the central terminal. This solution provides weather protection and passenger safety. Its form blends with the airport's unique design. Level five has a double wing profile of stretched white fabric covering, suggesting a bird's wings and recalling early airplane construction methods.
Environmental sustainability was also important. The translucent fabric covering allows natural ventilation and daylight illumination giving energy-efficient light.
2005 Outstanding Achievement Award - Architectural Structures
Industrial Fabrics Association International (IFAI)
2005 Merit Award-Innovative Design & Excellence in Architecture Using Structural Steel (IDEAS)
